Trauma Informed Care
Trauma informed care can be utilized to help a person with Depression/Dysthymia/Dysthymic Disorder/Anxiety/PTSD and other mood disorders.
Common responses to trauma include: anger, shame, trust issues, difficulty being assertive, low self-esteem, difficulty with feelings identification, difficulty with boundaries and people pleasing/difficulty saying no behaviors. Sometimes people also have problematic black and white or should/must thinking. It has been said that PTSD is a normal reaction to an abnormal (i.e. traumatic) event. DBT, EFT and Seeking Safety would help someone process and recover from childhood trauma/abuse, other traumatic events, identify the current effects of trauma and utilize healthy coping skills.
Trauma can have a profound and lasting impact on an individual’s mental health and well-being. At my practice, I offer specialized Trauma Therapy Services to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. Trauma Therapy Services are designed to address the emotional, psychological, and physical effects of trauma, providing a safe and supportive environment for recovery.
Understanding Trauma
Trauma results from distressing events that overwhelm an individual’s ability to cope. These events can include physical or emotional abuse, accidents, natural disasters, combat, or the sudden loss of a loved one. Trauma can lead to various symptoms, including anxiety, depression, flashbacks, nightmares, and emotional numbness. Trauma Therapy Services aim to address these symptoms and help individuals regain a sense of control over their lives.
The Importance of Trauma Therapy Services
Effective trauma therapy is essential for overcoming the long-term effects of traumatic experiences. Without proper treatment, trauma can lead to chronic mental health issues, relationship problems, and impaired daily functioning. Trauma Therapy Services provide the tools and support necessary to process traumatic memories, reduce symptoms, and promote healing.
Key Components of Trauma Therapy Services
- Assessment and Evaluation: The first step in Trauma Therapy Services is a thorough assessment to understand the nature and impact of the trauma. This evaluation helps to tailor the therapy to the specific needs of the client.
- Creating a Safe Environment: Establishing a sense of safety is crucial in trauma therapy. The therapeutic environment is designed to be a safe space where clients can explore their feelings and experiences without fear of judgment.
- Stabilization Techniques: Before delving into traumatic memories, it’s essential to develop stabilization techniques. These techniques help clients manage their emotions and reduce distress. Strategies may include grounding exercises, relaxation techniques, and mindfulness practices.
- Processing Traumatic Memories: Trauma Therapy Services involve techniques to process and integrate traumatic memories. Methods such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)are used. These techniques help clients reframe traumatic experiences and reduce their emotional impact.
- Building Coping Skills: Clients learn coping skills to manage trauma-related symptoms. These skills include emotion regulation, stress management, and problem-solving strategies. Building these skills helps clients navigate daily challenges more effectively.
- Strengthening Resilience: Trauma therapy focuses on building resilience and fostering a sense of empowerment. Clients work on enhancing their strengths and developing a positive self-image, which contributes to long-term recovery.
Benefits of Trauma Therapy Services
- Symptom Reduction: Effective trauma therapy can significantly reduce symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and flashbacks. Clients often experience a decrease in the intensity and frequency of these symptoms.
- Improved Emotional Regulation: Trauma Therapy Services help individuals learn to regulate their emotions, leading to improved emotional stability and well-being.
- Enhanced Relationships: By addressing the impact of trauma, clients can improve their relationships with others. They learn to communicate more effectively and build healthier connections.
- Increased Self-Esteem: Trauma therapy fosters a positive self-image and helps clients regain confidence and self-worth.
- Better Daily Functioning: With the help of Trauma Therapy Services, individuals can improve their ability to function in daily life, including work, social interactions, and self-care.

My Approach to Trauma Therapy Services
My approach to Trauma Therapy Services is holistic and considers all aspects of a client’s life. I create a compassionate and non-judgmental environment where clients feel safe to explore their trauma and develop new coping strategies. Using evidence-based techniques, I help clients process their trauma, reduce symptoms, and work towards healing and recovery.
I utilize a variety of Evidenced Based Treatments (EBT) including:
- Seeking Safety treatment is geared towards mainly women who have experienced trauma and as such may have developed PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) sx.’s and may be struggling with a substance abuse issue as well. Although the treatments I have been trained in primarily focused on women, I also have years of experience in providing young men therapy who experience the intersection of these two conditions.
- I’m DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) Trained. DBT treatment was developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan to help people with a condition known as BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder). BPD is characterized by extreme mood fluctuations, instability in interpersonal relationships and self-image. The person may also experience intense fear of abandonment, difficulty managing emotions and behavior and alternating between idealizing and devaluing other people. Although DBT was developed for BPD, it has a wide range of applications including for mood disorders such as Major Depression, Panic Disorder and PTSD.
- EFIT- (Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy) This therapy seeks to ease depression, anxiety and PTSD in individuals. It helps people have a secure and safe haven within themselves and with others and decrease rigidity in thinking and behavior. It delves deeply into emotions and how those
impact our relationships.
DBT, EFT and Seeking Safety would help someone process and recover from childhood trauma/abuse, other traumatic events, identify the effect of trauma and utilize healthy coping skills. Common responses to trauma include: anger, shame, trust issues/lack of trust, difficulty being assertive, low self-esteem, difficulty with feelings identification and difficulty with boundaries or people pleasing/difficulty saying no behaviors.
